Our Antique-Style Singing Bowl is the same hand-forged bell bronze as our plain bowls, but finished with an additional acid-wash treatment that gives it the darker patina of an aged instrument. The finish doesn't change the sound; it changes the look and feel.

Practitioners and collectors often prefer antique-style bowls because they feel more grounded and lived-in. The darker surface settles into a space rather than catching the light, which suits meditation, sound healing, and quiet rooms.

Each bowl is hand-forged by a team of artisans in Kathmandu, shaped through five distinct hammering stages, then quenched, polished, and given the antique finish. Read more about how Tibetan singing bowls are made.

What makes this an antique-style singing bowl?

The "antique" in the name refers to an acid-wash finish that darkens the bowl's surface to replicate the patina of an aged bowl.** The bowl itself is newly made by traditional artisans in Kathmandu, using the same hand-forging process as a plain bowl. The finish is what gives it the antique appearance.

Is this an actual antique singing bowl?

No, this is a new bowl with an antique-style finish.** True antique bowls (often 50+ years old) are sold by specialist dealers and typically cost significantly more. Our antique-style bowls offer the visual character of an aged bowl while being newly made, consistent in quality, and significantly more affordable.

Does the antique finish affect the sound?

No, the finish is a surface treatment that doesn't change the bowl's tone, resonance, or sustain.** Sound quality comes from the bowl's bell bronze alloy, its wall thickness, and the precision of the hand-forging. The acid-wash treatment is applied after the bowl has already been shaped and tuned.

How is the antique finish different from the plain bowls?

Plain bowls have a polished, bright bronze surface. Antique-style bowls go through an additional acid-wash finishing step that darkens the surface to a patina look. Otherwise, the bowls are made identically. The choice is aesthetic, plus a slightly different care requirement (the antique finish is more sensitive to abrasive cleaning).
